Here is the question people ask when I mention mobile is important; “Really - now I need a mobile website too - doesn’t this just automatically happen?”

 

So, first, is mobile Important?

Pinterest is such a no-brainer and easy site to use that it is unusual for me to not recommend to my clients that they have a presence on Pinterest and post there.  If you are already posting other places, like Facebook as an example, it takes just 5 minutes more to add the same post to Pinterest, so why not?

 

Actually pinterest is a much-overlooked and maligned social media platform.

You don’t really hate Yelp, right?  What you probably don’t like about Yelp is the possibility of getting a bad review posted to Yelp that you have no way of controlling.  And it might not even be anywhere near true.  Am I right?

Being found online when someone searches for what you offer, products or services, is certainly desirable, particularly coming up on page 1 or 2 of search results. And of course, the goal is to have this happen without paying for an ad.

Facebook has made it a lot harder for businesses to get visibility for their posts without paying.  They have done this by tweaking the algorithm that determines what your friends and followers see in their newsfeed.

Video content could be the best content you can post on social media right now.  Certainly there are many sites, including Facebook™, whose algorithms heavily favor video content.  And in the case of Facebook™, even offer live streaming capabilities. And there is no doubt that video content is very eyecatching.  And eyecatching is important, whether on social media, websites, or ads.

I think, without too much convincing, that most business-owners would agree that having online visibility is desirable.  You probably will find those that do not think it is of utmost importance, but all would probably agree it cannot hurt.   

 

However, for me, when I look at the statistics of the percentage of people that search online for a product or service they want, from a local cup of coffee, to a plumber, to a car, either through their computers or more and more, their cell phones, any company that does not put some effort into being found online is being foolish.
